The Best Toilet Ideas for Camping Trips

Camping can be a lot of fun, but it can also be nerve-wracking if you aren’t sure where to go to the bathroom! Sometimes the public toilets provided by the campground may not be enough. With so many toilet ideas for camping, you will find that there is one for your every need.

Toilet Ideas for Camping You Should Try

Maybe the public toilets aren’t well-maintained, or it’s crowded with many people. Whatever the reason is, you need to be prepared when nature suddenly calls. Some are fine with just a shovel they can dig and bury their waste in, but that won’t work for everyone. Here are some toilet ideas for camping we recommend you to try before you soil yourself.

Portable Camping Toilet

A portable camping toilet is a great option if you need a toilet that is easy to transport and set up. Most portable toilets come with their own carrying case or bag, making them easy to pack up and take with you on your trip. Some models even have wheels for easy transportation. Portable toilets are typically made from durable plastic or PVC and can be used with either disposable or reusable waste bags. The great thing about portable camping toilets is that there are a plethora of different options for you to choose from.

Collapsible Camping Toilet

A collapsible camping toilet is a good option if you need a compact toilet that will not take up too much space in your vehicle or campsite. Collapsible toilets can be made from different materials, such as plastic, PVC, or metal. They typically have legs that fold up for easy storage and transportation. Most collapsible toilets come with a waste bag that can be disposed of after use.

The “Bucket” Method

If you don’t have the budget, or you’re just not keen on having to buy a portable camping toilet, then you can do the “bucket” method. It’s relatively easy and cost-efficient. It may not give you a luxurious experience of using the toilet but it gets the job done. If you already have a bucket big enough to be sat on then congratulations, you’re halfway there! Of course, you can keep it that simple but you can also alter it by combining it with an old lawn chair so that you’re able to sit down while doing your business. Others have also used a pool noodle as a “seat cover” for the bucket to make it more comfortable.

How to Dispose of Your Waste Properly

When you're out camping, you've got to be careful with your waste. You simply cannot dump it anywhere as it reeks of odor, and out of respect for nature and other campers. Follow the “leave no trace” policy that everyone else does.

One, make sure you’re aware of the specific dump stations in every campground. Secondly, you can transport the waste to the public toilet, but do it properly and not leave a mess. However, that may not work for everyone especially if you’re camped far away from the toilets–you wouldn’t want to spread the odor everywhere.

Human waste needs to be properly disposed of in order to avoid contamination of water sources. When it comes to feces, burying them is the simplest and easiest way of getting rid of them in a proper manner.

The Final Flush

An uncomfortable toilet experience can make or break your camping trip no matter how much fun you’ve had engaging in physical activities. We hope these toilet ideas for camping have given you some plans on how you’ll go about your business while you’re out there.
